Isolation and Identification of Viruses Affecting Pepper (Capsicum Annuum L) in Korea

Abstract
1. A study was carried out to identify viruses affecting peppers in Korea.
With fifteen naturally infected pepper plants collected from Suweon, Kangneung, and Chinchun areas as inoculum sources, their host ranges, physical properties in crude sap, serological reaction and shape of virus particles were investigated.
2. According to the criteria mentioned above, they were classified into seven virus isolates.
3. Among the seven virus isolates, two strains of Tobacco Mosaic Virus presumed to be tomato streak and common strain, and each strain of Potato Virus Y and Cucumber Mosaic Virus were isolated and identified. Other isolates were found to be mixture of more than two different viruses, namely Tobacco Mosaic Virus+Cucumber Mosaic Virus, Tobacco Mosaic Virus+Alfalfa Mosaic Virus, and Tobacco Mosaic Virus+Cucumber Mosaic Virus+Alfalfa Mosaic Virus.
